Our Annual Prize Giving to celebrate the successes of our students in Spoken and Written English examinations was held on the 13th of May at the Bishop’s College auditorium.
The Prize Giving was concluded in two sessions, and we were delighted to have two very distinguished former students officiating as our Chief Guests. The morning session featured Sanjeewani Ranasinghe De Silva, Head of Corporate Affairs/ Brand and Marketing for Standard Chartered Bank. The afternoon session featured Nuzreth Jalaldeen, Executive Director of the American Chamber f Commerce in Sri Lanka.
In her remarks to the audience, Ms. Jalaldeen stated:
The Wendy Whatmore Academy has played a huge role in my life. I am part of the WWA family and proud to be so. The Academy is a great place to learn. It gave me such a wonderful learning experience. It trained me to not only hone my English skills, but to also be a confident speaker and to be able to conduct myself at any forum with ease and comfort.
The knowledge and training that the Academy gives you, cannot be matched; but make no mistake, the encouragement you give your children at home, to read, to explore, to keep on discovering – is one of the most important gifts you can give your child. I cannot begin to stress how important it is that you, dear parents, continue to nurture these habits at home.
With the advancement of technology and globalization, it is paramount that we encourage our children to be conversant, to be able to conduct themselves confidently and fluently in English. The Wendy Whatmore Academy in Sri Lanka makes this learning experience not only enjoyable but a memorable one. The curricula it offers is vast; ranging from drama to spoken English exams to even exams like effective speaking and written English – all of which give you a well-rounded introduction and learning to the all-important English language.
